John was born and raised in Oxford, UK, and immigrated to Sydney Australia with his family in 2000. John is well travelled having lived and worked in New Zealand, Thailand, and Ireland.
Studied Sports Science at the University of West England and has over 25 years of youth coaching experience in a range of sports including, swimming, golf, and soccer. He is a qualified Personal Trainer, and certified American Red Cross First Aid, LifeGuard, and CPR Trainer.
Before coming to work for IHC John was in the hospitality industry studying part-time in Hospitality and Culinary Arts while working in some of Sydney's top bars, restaurants, and cafes. He then moved into the business side of hospitality working for the Coca-Cola Company as a Business Development Manager,
John came to Camp as a swimming specialist on what he thought was a one-and-done summer job. He fell in love with the camp culture, the staff, and the experience we provide to our campers. He was lucky enough to be invited back for IHC West (twice), then as Waterfront Director, and finally full-time as one of our Athletic Directors.
John is well known to all of the campers no matter their age and wants nothing more than to allow them to try a new sport, learn a new skill, and most importantly have fun. He is particularly proud of being ‘mimicked’ by campers during the Sing! And Olympic skits.
In the off-season, John is an avid soccer fan, master in the kitchen, and coffee snob who wants nothing more than to sit with TV shows, movies, books, and video games. John lives in North Carolina with his fiance- whom he met during his first year working at camp.
